Immunohistochemical Studies on the Estrogen Receptor-related Protein and Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor in Squamous celll Carcinoma of the Uterine Cervix

Abstract
The expression of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) and estrogen receptor(ER) related protein was studied in squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix and the results were compared with malignant grade and lymphocytic infiltration. The
study
was performed in formalin fixed paraffin sections of 15 hysterectomized uterus of the squamous cell of the cervix by means of immunohistochemistry, with monoclonal antibodies.
The staining index of EGFR in high grade of malignancy group was significantly higher than in low grade of malignancy group. But there was nosignificant difference of the staining index of ER between two groups.
The staining index of ER has reversed relationship with the lymphocytic infiltration in tumor.
From the above results, it may be assumed EGFR expression is prognostic index in the squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix.
